Matar Paneer

When I saw 'Family Favourite Food Event' at Shama's Easy2cook Recipes, I was at a loss in deciding what to send for the event. There are always some dishes in every house which are welcomed by the whole family wholeheartedly. I was glad that she had allowed to send multiple entries. I hope that I will be able to send more than one entry for this event.
Paneer is one item which never hears a 'no' in my household. Today, I am sharing the recipe of 'Matar Paneer'

This recipe serves 3-4 people.

For this recipe you will need:
150 gm paneer.
1 cup green peas.
3 tomatoes.
1 onion.
10-12 cashew nuts.
1 cup water.
1 tsp cumin seeds.
2 tbsp ghee.
1 chilli chopped finely.
1 tsp grated ginger.
2 tsp coriander powder.
½ tsp turmeric powder.
½ tsp red chilli powder.
1 tsp garam masala.
1 ½ salt or to taste.
1 tsp sugar.
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves to garnish.

Process:

Boil the tomatoes and onions separately in a cup of water and make a puree of it. Make a cashew paste. Dice the paneer into one inch cubes. Keep aside. If using frozen peas, microwave it for 2 minutes. Heat a pan and add ghee. When heated add cumin seeds such that they crack right away. Add the chopped green chilli and grated ginger. Add the onion paste and sauté for 2 minutes. Add the cashew paste and heat till ghee leaves from its sides. Then add the tomato puree and heat for 2 minutes. Add all the spices and sugar except garam masala. Stir and heat for 3-4 minutes. Add the green peas. Heat for another 2 minutes. Add garam masala and stir. Add the paneer cubes and heat for another 2 minutes. Turn off the gas and take the pan off gas. Transfer into a serving bowl.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot. Add cream for an extra creamy taste. Matar paneer goes well with paratha, naan and even veg pulav and phulka. Enjoy!
