Chena Matar (Peas with cottage cheese)

I had never heard of this particular preparation of peas until one day when my husband asked me to prepare it. I asked my MIL about the recipe. Its very simple and nutritious. Sending this to the event -My Legume Love Affair # 22 brain child of Susan and this month's event being hosted by Ruchikacooks.

Chena Matar. (Peas with cottage cheese)

Ingredients:

1½ cup milk.
1 tbsp lemon juice.
1 cup frozen peas, thawed.
½ tsp red chilli powder.
1 tsp coriander powder.
¼ tsp turmeric powder.
½ tsp cumin seeds.
Salt to taste.
1 tsp sugar.
Few strands of grated ginger.
Chopped green chilli to taste.
2 tsp ghee.

Process:
Boil milk. When it is boiling up add lemon juice and stir. The milk will curdle. Take it off gas and strain the cheese(Indian Chena) from the mixture with the help of a strainer or muslin cloth. Keep aside and let it cool down. When cold crumble it with hands.
Heat a pan and add ghee. When heated add cumin seeds, chopped chilli and grated ginger. Sauté for a few seconds. Add crumbled cottage cheese and roast is for 3-5 minutes. Keep stirring. Add all the spices, salt and sugar and heat for 2-3 minutes till all the spices are cooked. Now add the peas and mix well. Heat for 2-3 more minutes and then take it off gas.
Serve with warm phulkas. Enjoy!
